PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT and SELF ESTEEM

One of the greatest benefits of personal development that is most reported is increased confidence and self esteem.

This of course is different for everybody
For a contractor
their self esteem gets a hiding most often in 2 phases of the life cycle of a contract.
The first assault is when they fail the interview... and this builds up over time that makes their self esteem a little tender and gun shy.

The second heavy assault is between contracts.. when they are left waiting by the phone... no one calling.. wondering if its them.. or the market... or someone giving them a bad rap.. or just feeling exposed, alone and very uncertain.

The third is at contract renewal... and budgets have been slashed and they need to let you and a couple of others go but keep some guys on that you know are nowhere near as capable as you.

The fourth is when in a contract but you feel unheard, unexpressed, not important.
For the Team Lead
It can often be due to standing alone between a rock and a hard place.. being held responsible for what is out of their control

For the Recruiter
It can seem almost like a way of life.. where calling HR is often met with a very nasty response from a person on the other side.

FOR those who are into personal development know how this will lead to a battered Self Esteem if these barrages are NOT quickly dealt with.

So my question is

To what extent has personal development NOT helped.. OR has it helped in every way?
